Engr. Dr. M. Mohsin Waqas
Assistant Professor
PhD (Agricultural Engineering), UAF, Pakistan
Engr. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Waqas began his educational journey in the village of Dera Ghazi Khan and later earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering from Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan. He continued his studies and completed an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), Pakistan. During this time, he worked on several projects funded by DAAD (Germany), USPCAS-AFS, and HEC TDF within the Department of Irrigation and Drainage at UAF.
During his PhD, his outstanding research contributions earned him the title of “Champion of Change” during his tenure at the University of California, Davis, USA. He was also appointed as a GIS expert by UAF’s Worthy Vice Chancellor, collaborating with the United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the project “Redefining the Agroecological Zones of Punjab.” He has worked with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) as a research consultant.
Earlier in his career, he was appointed Assistant Agricultural Engineer in the Field Wing of the Punjab Agriculture Department through the Punjab Public Service Commission. In August 2018, he decided to joined the academia by joining Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT), following in the footsteps of his father, Sardar Yaqeen Muhammad Sajid, a respected teacher and Punjab Textbook Board author in the 1990s. Dr. Waqas's family has a strong commitment to education, demonstrated by their donation of land for a government girls' primary school in their village.
He currently serves as an Assistant Professor, specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS Application in Agriculture Water Management, Climate Change, Hydrological Modeling and Precision Agriculture. Additionally, he serves as the CBA Coordinator and Admission Coordinator and Manager Farm at Agriculture Research Farm. He has made significant contributions to curriculum development and has served on the Board of Studie, Board of Faculties and Academic Council for BS/MS/PhD programs in Agricultural Engineering, BS Food Engineering, BS Agriculture, BS Animal Sciences and BS Poultry Sciences and MS/PhD programs in Water Resources Management, Climate Change, and Engineering Hydrology.
He was a core member of the team that successfully conducted the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Zero Visit. He also served as Head of Department, overseeing the successful PEC interim visit, which further strengthened the department’s accreditation and academic standing. He initiated the three major Domains of BS Agriculture (Agronomy, Entomology and Horticulture). In the Department of Agricultural Engineering, he served as convener of the series of conferences entitled “International Conferences on Precision and Sustainable Agriculture” and edited the abstract books.
In addition to his academic roles, he is serving as Additional Director QEC and In-Charge of the Quality Enhancement Cell for Affiliated Colleges (QECAC). His contributions to the QEC include launching international conferences series on “Insertional Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, writing the conference compendium, and editing the abstract books. He is actively involved in institutional rankings such as Times Higher Education (THE) and UI Green Metric, where he has drafted, compiled, and edited the University Sustainability Reports and ranking questionnaires, particularly for the UI Green Metric ranking.
He has introduced several quality assurance initiatives, including the Class Monitoring System, Course File Review Mechanism, and an internal review mechanism for Self-Assessment Reports (SARs). He has also been a resource person in training sessions on effective SAR writing and HEC 2023 policy Implementation. Through QECAC, he has successfully engaged affiliated colleges in the Self-Assessment Mechanism and has helped establish policies that ensure high-quality education across these institutions.
He is currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of Big Data in Agriculture, an emerging journal published by Zabeline Publisher, Malaysia. His scholarly contributions include the Impact Factor Publications: 31; HEC Approved Journal Publications: 1; Other Journal Publication: 15; Book: 1; Book Chapters: 8, Conference Presentations: 11. He is the reviewer of International Journals Like Computer and Electronics in Agriculture, Water, Sustainability, Remote Sensing.
